Another season, another shoot! Autumn is full of beautiful colours and earlier evenings, so is a lovely time to have your photo taken. Here's a few ideas :)
Dress for the weather
I've said this for every shoot, but dress comfortably for the weather! Autumn may have bright sunlight, but it tends to be cooler overall, so a jacket is a good item to bring. Lightweight scarves can be a really cute accessory too! Layering is ideal as you can take off coats when you do get too warm, but then add them back as the light fades.
Warm colours
Autumn is full of reds, oranges, and yellows, and the golden hour is, as it says, golden! With that in mind, these colours will look great against the leaves on the trees. Browns are also a nice earthy colour if you want to blend into the photo more. On the other hand, blues and greens will stand out more from the background and provide a nice contrast.
Leaves & Trees
Autumn is all about the changing leaves. I recommend having your shoot in the early autumn as the leaves are newly shed from the trees. Find a local woodland and scout out ideal locations where the leaves pile up. While you can't always predict the weather, if you can manage to get your shoot in when the leaves are falling but when it hasn't rained in a while, the leaves will be nice and crunchy and not squelched into mud.
Act Natural!
Whether it's a solo, couples, friends, or family shoot, just be yourselves! Your true emotions will shine through the photographs. I encourage children to play together, families to hug, friends to have a laugh together.
